Reportage >>> Bed Stuy Do Or DIE
|

Bedford
Stuyvesant,
better known as 'Bed Stuy', has long been notorious for its
gangland antics. Ruled jointly by the the 'Bloods' and the
'Crips' it is not uncommon for rival drug feuds to spill onto
the streets. But with violence rife and incomes low (meaning
no health insurance), it is the Bed Stuy 'Volunteer' Ambulance
Core that often arrives first at the scene of a violent shooting.
They receive neither money nor thanks for their trouble. Still,
they are out there risking their own lives. Not for the love
of God, but simply because somebody has to.
"I here to let you know son,” a member of the 'Bloods'
says to Ron, a volunteer working on a gun shot victim,“if
my brother dies on the back of this ambulance - so do you.”
